Hamina Custom AP Position Images for Better Reporting

Whilst I love the online reports within Hamina, receiving them from our partners is helpful. It enables me as the reviewer to zoom in and confirm that AP radio settings align with my company’s standards. Still, there are times when our installers want or need PDF versions.

For our standard stores and carpet offices, the pre-canned Hamina PDF has been good enough to get by. Still, when we start doing large warehouses or high-density areas, the PDF AP placement sections don’t cut it. Due to the pre-canned PDF reports within Hamina utilising A4 pages and the images not adjusting the AP icons you can end up with something like this:

Now if I were to give that to an installer, it doesn’t matter if they blow it up to 1000%. It’s not a vector diagram, so all it does is make it bigger. You still cannot read where the APs actually go or which AP is what.

Now how was I fixing this until today. First, I opened the design in Hamina. I then enlarged the image to see the APs and numbers clearly. Then, I would take multiple screenshots and manually stitch them together. After that, I would give the stitched image to the installer. I said there has to be a better way. I turned to AI. Within a few minutes, I managed to create a website. It produces PNG images with customizable AP sized icons. Being PNG, it’s possible to be resized to allow the installers to print out in A0 if they choose.

I built out two websites:

  1. Generate the AP position images
  2. Generate the AP position images and add them into the existing Hamina Report

I really hope that Hamina adds this ability to be native within the Tool. It would be great to have other reporting features like the ability to insert tables and define page sizes. Defining orientations will help us provide professional-looking reports as PDF where we need to.
